Construction
Construction on the first home of 2010 will begin in Merrifield on March
8.
Shifts are all open. If you can’t pound nails, please consider
delivering a simple lunch to the workers. Recruit a group and call to
claim your day!
BUILD ADDRESS: 13143 County Road 116, Merrifield Directions: from
Brainerd, take CR 3 north to Merrifield; continue on CR 3 about 3 ½ miles
to CR116; turn right (east about ¼ mile to 13143.
Sign up as a group or individual. It is important that all volunteers
register with the office before going to the work site. Changes to the
schedule may occur and we need to be able to contact you.

Monday, March 8: Wall framing 20-25

Wednesday, March 10: Interior walls, shingles, soffit, set windows 15-20

Thursday, March 11: Siding, shingles, door install, soffit 10-15

Friday, March 12: Siding, soffit, shingling if needed, site clean-up 10-15

March 15-19
No volunteers needed as subcontractors will be on site
March 22-26: insulation and vapor
barrier; drywall installation 15-20 volunteers needed
March 29-April 1: Monday-Friday: Drywall finishing (tape, mud, sand-out)
Only experienced volunteers needed
Tentative schedule for the first three weeks in
April...
April 5- 9: Paint, trim and flooring installation (tile and laminate)
10-15 volunteers needed most shifts
April 12-16 and April22-26: trim/ cabinet installation, interior doors,
wrap-ups 5-8 volunteers needed most shifts
Other information:
• Volunteers will be guided by LAHFH construction manager, Larry
Johannessohn.
• Tools will be available at the site. You may bring your own tools.
Please have them marked and keep track of them. *For safety reasons, power
nailers are not allowed on the work site.
• If you are signing up for a full day, you may want to pack your lunch or
plan on eating at a nearby food establishment. If a lunch is going to be
delivered to the site by volunteers, we will try to get the word out in
advance to those signed up for that day.
• Please bring drinking water to stay hydrated.
• Dress appropriately for the weather and work.
• There will be satellite toilets on site.
• Very important: Please log in and out in the log book on site and
complete a volunteer/waiver form if you do not have one on file. A site
host/hostess should be on site to guide you.
• If you cannot work on the build site, but want to be involved, contact
us about food prep/donation for work crews.

ReStore: ReStore AM Coffee &
Rolls in Walker…. The ReStore is planning an informational gathering
for volunteers and contractors in Walker the last week in March.
Please contact Scott Hall if you can help or for more information. 454-8517 Volunteers are needed
for store operations- cashiering, sales floor help, arranging and
organizing stock, assisting with loading and unloading. Please call Scott at 454-8517

• YIKES!BIKES! Annual Bike Ride in
Walker, July 24, 2010- volunteers needed to work on this FUN
fundraising event with outgoing committee members and volunteers. Includes
promotion, soliciting, food prep, set-up, registration, clean-up and more!

• 20th Anniversary Reunion/Celebration!
June 15- planning for this event has just begun. Please let us know if you
may be interested in being involved.
• Annual Dinner/Auction October 28, 2010-
if you think you may be interested in helping with this fun event, please
let us know. The next meeting will be in May.

ON-LINE SAFETY TRAINING FOR VOLUNTEERS. The volunteer course
presents detailed information on a wide range of common safety risks found
on and around the jobsite. Help us keep the jobsite safe for everyone!
Simply go to

started is right there. (The volunteer website does not require a
password.) Certificates will be sent to LAHFH upon completion.
